Trees of Pennsylvania Blog

admin

We're working out the bugs. Although most of Trees of Pennsylvania is ready to go, we have many small issues to resolve.

Before I describe some of our ongoing efforts, I want to mention our Community. If you are familiar with Facebook, it might help to think of this feature as the Facebook of trees, forests, and those who have a passion for all things of the outdoors. As far as I know, the Community is functioning smoothly and ready for you. Why not jump in, make some new friends, uploads some pictures, discuss upcoming events, and see what others are up to. Don't forget to recommend our community to your friends!

Business/Organization Directory - Wouldn't it be great to have one place on the Web where you could learn about the best tree, forest, and related businesses and organizations? Well here is the starting point for just such a resource. Please take a few minutes to complete a listing on your business or organization, or even on ones you would recommend. You could also assist by passing along a link to friends and associates who might want to list their business or organization. Thanks in advance for working with me to develop this feature!

As far as I know, we have everything functioning well in the Directory. Please don't hesitate to use the contact form to let me know if you run into any problems or have any suggestions for improving this feature.

Tree Profiles - This is where I will be building, along with the assistance of many registered users, profiles on all of the trees Native to Pennsylvania and some of the more common introduced species. There is much to be done on the trees, so why not jump in and provide data on your favorites!

I am going to go ahead and start entering tree names and then get to more details over the next several months. If you would like to submit a tree that has not been entered, you must be registered and logged in. If you would like to add details on one that has been started by me or someone else, you will need to be added to the access list. Please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with your request - don't forget to include the species you wish to edit!

Just a question about the blog capability. Is it meant so that members can have their own blogs or more so that members can contribute to one or more central blog(s)?
FYI - I tried creating a blog and was able to give it a title and description but was denied access to create an entry to the blog. Could just be a bug, but wanted to understand the intent of the blog feature. Thanks!

Blogging Capability

Hi. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I believe there was an administrative setting that needed to be changed to allow posting. I will be testing to make certain it is working now.

This is just one blog, but it provides all registered users with the chance to post to it. You can gain additional control by clicking "my account" in the blog menu. That will take you to a page that includes your posts only. This is especially helpful if you want to provide others with a link to "your" blog.

I am going to provide more details in an additional comment, and I will add an article on the blog within a week.
